Detroit to Dakar (D2D) is comprised of a group of solution-oriented Detroiters that will travel to Dakar, Africa for the World Social Forum. Combined with our passions, we are dedicated to working in the best interest of mankind. Ultimately, we value the struggles/victories of people from every corner of the earth, and seek to unify our similarities rather than become polarized based upon our differences.
The World Social Forum is approaching its 10-year anniversary in February. It was formed as a space for social movement convergence and strategic discussion that transforms the increased concentration of power and decision-making in the hands of the international financial/business elite, at the expense of ordinary people. D2D is an initiative of Africa-focused organizations from around the U.S to promote issues related to Africa and the African Diaspora. D2D coordinated its activities toward enhanced participation at the U.S. Social Forum in Detroit this past June, while also making strategic links towards the World Social Forum in Dakar, Senegal in early 2011.
D2D is showing the parallels of the economic downturn across the U.S. and Africa by making strategic links between these two cities, Detroit and Dakar, and helping us move toward global concepts for solutions.
