How YOU Can Support Detroit 2 Dakar

D2D is an initiative of Africa-focused organizations from around the U.S to promote issues related to Africa and the African Diaspora. D2D coordinated its activities toward enhanced participation at the U.S. Social Forum in Detroit this past June, while also making strategic links towards the World Social Forum in Dakar, Senegal in early 2011. (HYPERLINK "http://sites.google.com/site/detroittodakar/" http://sites.google.com/site/detroittodakar/ and blog: http://detroit2dakar.blogspot.com/)

D2D is showing the parallels of the economic downturn across the U.S. and Africa by making strategic links between these two cities, Detroit and Dakar, and helping us move toward global concepts for solutions.

This auction and after party is a wonderful opportunity to witness the Detroit grassroots community in action. Your support will help fund the travel expenses of the Detroit Delegation, who will travel to Dakar, Senegal in February 2011 for the World Social Forum to continue this work.

Please join us for a night of creativity, collaboration, music, performances, and thought-provoking commentary. There will be raffle prizes, and auction items including art, clothing, music, coaching sessions (personal, style, and facilitation), a vacation in Traverse City, MI, and much more! The auction is from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., followed by the after party.

This event is open to the public, and a $5-$20 donation to D2D is suggested for admission (although no one will be turned away at the door for lack of funds). The funds from every donation and bid will support the travel expenses of the Detroit delegation of D2D. The Cass Corridor Neighborhood Development Center is located at
3535 Cass Avenue (at MLK Jr. Blvd).

You are an essential part of the Detroit Community, and I hope you are able to attend and show your support. With you in the equation, we know we can do it.

Thank you for your support. We can't wait to see you!

If you can't make it to the auction or other D2D events, please consider making a donation. East Michigan Environmental Action Council is acting as the delegation?s fiduciary.  In accordance with IRS 501C3 laws all donations to this group are tax deductible under the organizations tax identification number 23-7241219.  Please make checks out to "EMEAC" and include "WSF D2D" in the memo. Please mail to EMEAC, 87 E. Canfield St., Ste 4500, Detroit MI, 48202.

Your generous donation of $25, $50, $100, or more will go a long way toward getting us to Dakar. Here's is the link for online donations: https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/MakeDonation.aspx?ORGID2=237241219

Meet: Detroit2Dakar

Detroit to Dakar (D2D) is comprised of a group of solution-oriented Detroiters that will travel to Dakar, Africa for the World Social Forum. Combined with our passions, we are dedicated to working in the best interest of mankind. Ultimately, we value the struggles/victories of people from every corner of the earth, and seek to unify our similarities rather than become polarized based upon our differences.

The World Social Forum is approaching its 10-year anniversary in February. It was formed as a space for social movement convergence and strategic discussion that transforms the
increased concentration of power and decision-making in the hands of the international financial/business elite, at the expense of ordinary people. For more information about the 2011 World Social Forum: http://fsm2011.org/.
